Jubilee Baking Roundup

Initially this post was entitled Jubilee Food Roundup from blogs but, after a good search, food blogs related to the Jubliee seem to be very scarce so baking it is.

After last year’s Royal Wedding and the recent upsurge in home baking, celebration/themed cakes seem to be more popular than ever. A few weeks ago I experimented decorating cupcakes with a Jubilee theme and since then lots of other cakes by bloggers have appeared on the web. Cake decorating doesn’t need to be complicated, as these examples below show, or even involve lots of food colouring. What better way to showcase fabulous British strawberries, that are just coming in to season, on a Union Jack cake for the Jubilee.

My Jubilee cupcakes featuring multicoloured buttercream, crowns, stamps and bunting.

Jubilee Trifle –  Fabulicious Food. I love the way Ren has used raspberries behind the crowns.

Jubliee Cake  – Edd Kimber, Boy Who Bakes. A very patriotic way to serve strawberries and cream.

Iced Gems – Feeding Boys. Fabulous little bite sized treats.

Jubilee Cupcakes – Cupcake Dolly. A wonderful way of decorating cakes. Just use edible ink pens or food dye mixed with vodka to paint directly on to rolled sugarpaste.

Jelly Bean Union Jack Cake – Fuss Free Flavours. A vivid design that can work well on smaller cakes too.

What are you planning on making for the Jubilee weekend?
